The Last Days of Summer
In a bid to enjoy the remaining days of summer, there will be countless pet owners taking their pet friends to the great outdoors. However, in order to have an enjoyable experience, and to have a fun filled adventure, there are some pointers you need to bear in mind.
Employ pet friendly animal repellent and sunscreen
It’s important to remember that your pets can get sunburnt as well, not just yourself. Because of this you should take the time to apply pet friendly sun lotion, or baby sunscreen if you aren’t able to locate any pet sunscreen at your pet shop.
Additionally, you should also remember to apply animal repellent, as heartworm can easily be contracted if a mosquito decides to bite your dog. Just like the sunscreen, make sure that you purchase a repellent that is pet friendly. Any repellent that contains DEET can possibly lead to vomiting, in addition to neurological problems in animals.
Furthermore, if you are using a sunscreen that contains zinc or PABA, or a repellent that contains DEET, you should make sure that you dog doesn’t lick your skin, as these products can be toxic to them.
Keep Grill Food for Humans
While it may be tempting to give your pet some grilled food, animals can experience an upset stomach as a result of owners indulging them.
In order to prevent your dog from getting sick it’s always wise not overfeed them during these times. After all you don’t want to have a sick dog on your hands while you try to enjoy the last days of summer.
Maintain your coolness
During hot days you should make sure that your dog doesn’t experience heatstroke from being outside too long. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke you will need to cool them down as quickly as possible.
In order to do this you should soak your dog with towels and water and position him in front of a fan if possible. Once you have done that, make sure you contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Make sure though that you don’t use ice or even ice cold water to cool your dog’s body down as this could lead to your dog going into shock with the rapid coolness.
