Father Uses Toddler As TASER Shield
A 27-year-old father found himself accused of utilizing his toddler as a human shield in order to avoid being shocked by a TASER device.
The man in question however, who pleaded guilty, was charged with resisting and obstructing police, home invasion, in addition to entering a no contest plea to one count of second degree child abuse.
Prosecutors say the man had forced his way into his ex-wife’s home earlier this year. But when police came to arrest the man he resisted their efforts. As a result he grabbed his 2-year-old daughter, and subsequently held her in front of the arresting officer’s TASER weapon.
Luckily the self defense device was not deployed.
In situations such as these it requires a steady hand when someone is holding a stunning tool that is designed to subdue an individual, especially when there are children involved. In this case though, the young girl wasn’t harm when her father decided to employ her as a shield, which ultimately only showed his cowardice, plus his lack of concern over her 2-year-old’s well being.
Before an officer is allowed to go on duty with a TASER device they must first undergo extensive training. This training provides them with the necessary skills at knowing what to do in each situation and how to tackle them effectively. Once this training has been completed, only then are they permitted with the device.
Of course when it comes to training and the actual job, they can vary extensively. The main thing however is that when an officer has received one of these tools, they are better prepared when they require their use. Not only that, but they will know how to correctly employ the device, while also knowing how to utilize it to bring about the best results.
An officer who uses a TASER weapon is not just using one to subdue a suspect; they are also using it to protect and defend those who need protecting. In this case, it was the 2-year-old girl whose father had tried to use her as a shield against the same device that was trying to protect her; which is where the steady hands come in.
