Pepper Spray Used to Break Up Parking Lot Brawl

On Thursday evening Mount Prospect police arrested 10 people with the help of pepper spray after a brawl broke out at a parking lot. The 10 people involved, who were a mix of adults and juveniles, found themselves arrested with disorderly conduct as a result.

When officers arrived at the scene they saw around a dozen people fighting in the parking lot. They tried to break it up, but had to resort to utilizing the spray canister when they found that talking to those involved didn’t work.

However, even though pepper spray was employed it took nearly a dozen officers and more minutes to actually stop the fight, before order could be brought to the area. After the fight three people were taken to nearby hospitals; however this was the result of the fight, and not the use of the spraying device.

There were six adults involved aged between 27 and 43 years of age, who found themselves charged with disorderly conduct, and four juveniles aged between 13 and 17 years of age who were also arrested with disorderly conduct.

The reasons involved for the fight have not been made clear, and why adults and juveniles were fighting is not any clearer either. What is clear though is that officers were able to bring order to a scene with the help of pepper spray when talking proved futile to those present.

Nowadays with the help of spray canisters such as this, officers are able to achieve order to a situation more effectively; compared to if the device wasn’t present in our society. However while many people may complain about its use and the effects it produces on those who feel the spray, it does exactly what it has been created to do, which is subdue those who may be causing a nuisance.

Many people have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to pepper spray. This device has enabled individuals to remain safe when they go out, while also allowing officers to tackle difficult individuals in a more humane way. Brute force is no longer necessary when this self defense device is around for those who require its assistance.
