Driver Subdued by TASER
A man from Ontario has been charged with injuring a driver, plus assaulting five officers after a scuffle that came to an end when a TASER device was employed on the suspect driver.
Ontario Provincial Police based in Toronto initially showed up to a scene of a collision in the early hours of the morning. According to officers the suspect driver was impaired by a drug, and called an ambulance to attend to the man.
However, when they made an attempt to arrest the individual he tried to run away on foot. As a result a struggle ensued which lasted 10 minutes and only came to a stop when the driver was hindered by a TASER weapon.
When it comes to drugs and self defense tools the area is not always so clear as black and white. When is it okay for an officer to employ their safety tool when the targeted individual has drugs in their system?
It’s a tricky area for many officers in the field struggle to answer. In most cases though if the targeted person is known to have taken undetermined drugs then paramedics are initially called to the scene to attend to the person first before anything else is undertaken.
This way the safety of the individual involved is maximized without resulting in any further harm. But what if there are no paramedics on the scene, what then?
In this situation paramedics were at the scene as it was the scene of a collision. Because of this he was tended to. It was only when he attempted to make a run for it on foot that his safety was in danger from other cars on the road, and which subsequently saw him stopped by a TASER device.
It’s important to remember that while officers may be looked at as the bad guys when they employ these tools, they are only doing so to stop people from further harming themselves or to take down a suspect in an effective manner without employing unnecessary force on them.
Their job is to protect people, and they will continue to do so in a manner that provides the best results, and if that means utilizing a TASER weapon then that’s what they will do to achieve those results.
