Female Students Learn Self Defense after Rape Incident

A horrifying rape has gripped BYU students in Utah County by kick starting their desire to learn important self defense skills.

Many of the students taking part in the defense course are finding that while it is hard, it is extremely empowering at the same time. Not only are they gaining vital skills which will help to protect them from a possible attacker, but their self esteem will also take a boost from it too.

As a result of the rape attack many of the female students want to feel safe, and by listening to the voices of their students the university has brought in Jiu Jitsu experts in order to present them with vital tips on how to increase their safety.

One tip that many students are receiving is simply to keep their elbows in tight to their body. By having them close, they are finding that they are much stronger compared to having their arm away from them. Another tip they have learnt is how to properly guard their face, while also employing their legs to deliver powerful kicks.

Of course all the advice and skills they acquire will ultimately aid a lone female from preventing anything horrible happening to them. It also tunes the students into realizing that they are not in a safe bubble that will prevent them from harm.

By exposing the students to the possible risks they are more likely going to be aware of the potential dangers and the things that could happen to them. Because of this they become women who are more attuned to their surroundings, and are less likely to become victims of a rape attack.

All that they learn will ultimately be of use. Even if they never have to employ their new found skills they will still know how to defend themselves.

One factor that is often common with victims is they instantly freeze when they are confronted by someone and give up. This portrays to a predator that their victim doesn’t have any confidence in themselves, which consequently makes them an easy target.

And yet by learning self defense skills confidence will play a major role. Individuals who lack confidence will soon find themselves demonstrating more confidence. In most cases this is all that is required to deter someone from picking you as a potential victim.

Portray that you can defend yourself by walking confidently, and you will find no one will choose you as the next victim.
